Gas fireplace serviceLevel 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Chimney Cleaning Before & After in Alpharetta, GA
Photos tell the truth faster than any sales pitch. Below are real transformations from chimney cleaning and inspection jobs we’ve completed around Alpharetta, Milton, and Roswell. Some of these chimneys looked fine from the outside. Inside the flue, it was a different story. We document every job with camera images so you can see exactly what we saw, what we did, and how it turned out. That’s the standard we work to at Flint Chimney Co Alpharetta.

Stage 2 Creosote Removal in a Wood-Burning Fireplace
Before
AfterThis Alpharetta homeowner used their fireplace nightly from November through February and burned a fair amount of unseasoned oak. The flue had built up a glaze of stage 2 creosote, the shiny, tar-like kind that’s hard to remove and carries real fire risk. We ran a full mechanical sweep with rotary rods and chains, followed by a hand scrape of the smoke chamber, then vacuumed the firebox and smoke shelf clean. Final camera check showed clean clay tile from throat to cap. Total time on site was just under two hours, and the homeowner watched the camera feed the whole way through. That’s the kind of job we like: nothing to hide, everything documented.
Heavy Soot and Debris Blockage in a Prefabricated Chimney
Before
AfterA family in the Windward area called us because their gas logs were producing a slight smoky smell and the glass was sooting up faster than normal. The inspection found nesting material and a wad of soot stuck about eight feet up the prefab flue, likely from birds that got in around a damaged chase top. We removed the blockage, swept the flue, and flagged the chase top damage for a repair. Once the airflow was restored, the gas logs burned clean again. This one is a good example of why a sweep isn’t just housekeeping. Restricted airflow in a gas chimney quietly pushes carbon monoxide back into the living space, and that’s not something to guess about.
Smoke Chamber Cleaning After Years of Neglect
Before
AfterThis Milton home had a masonry chimney that had been swept regularly, but the smoke chamber had never been touched. Most sweeps only do the flue itself, so the smoke chamber becomes a creosote reservoir. When we got our camera in there, the corbelled brick walls looked like they’d been painted with tar. We scraped the walls, applied a professional refractory sealant (HeatShield, which we use on most smoke chamber work), and resealed the cleanout door. The homeowner told us the fireplace drew noticeably better afterward. No surprise. A clean, sealed smoke chamber lets the chimney pull air the way it was designed to.
Glazed Creosote Removal from a Masonry Fireplace Serving an Alpharetta Bonus Room

Bonus rooms over garages are common around Crabapple, and a lot of them have fireplaces that don’t get used often. This one sat unused for two years. When the new owners opened the damper, they got a strong campfire smell and the damper was reluctant to move. The flue had a thick layer of glazed creosote that had hardened like candy. This is the stuff a standard brush won’t budge. We used a rotary roof whip and a chemical creosote conditioner to break down the glaze, then swept and vacuumed. The after photos show tile that looks nearly new. The smell was gone within a day.
Full Inspection After a Squirrel Took Up Residence

We’ll tell you straight: the “before” on this one was unpleasant. A squirrel had set up shop in the ash dump. The homeowner in the Brookwood area called about scratching sounds in the firebox, and our inspection found a nest of leaves, twigs, and acorns packed tight. We removed the debris, cleaned the firebox and ash dump, and ran a full camera inspection to check for damage and any remaining animals. Then we recommended a chimney cap replacement to keep the next squirrel out. The “after” is a chimney that’s clean, critter-free, and ready to burn safely.
